The “YM WITNESS” ship from Hong Kong smashed into the port cranes while trying to dock at Kocaeli Evyap Port with the pilot guiding it. This caused the cranes to overturn, and several containers from the ship fell into the sea.

On 30 October 2020 Friday afternoon, the western province of Izmir was hit by an earthquake of 6.6 – 7.0 magnitude. The earthquake affected the Aegean Sea, caused a minor tsunami, and continued with more than 2000 aftershocks reaching over 4 magnitudes.
