HY 0019 Dog and mirror
Dogs cannot perceive two-dimensional objects, but a mirror is not exactly a two-dimensional object compared to others. Not every dog that sees its reflection in the mirror may be able to grasp the situation, and this may show various differences from animal to animal. For example, when a puppy realizes that the image in the mirror is itself and plays with him, those who do not realize it behaves like a different individual and it will usually be difficult to realize exactly what their reaction is. In adults, the situation may be a bit more adverse. While the dog, who is aware of what the mirror is, does not pay much attention to it, someone else who meets the mirror for the first time and cannot understand what is happening may show signs of aggression or fear.
